A California police officer who had previously served in the Marines was killed in a car accident on Aug. 10, 2018. He had been working as a law enforcement officer for 19 years at the time of his passing. He was 46 years old.
Reports indicate that the officer had initiated a traffic stop on another vehicle. They were on the shoulder of the road. The police officer had been riding a motorcycle.
While they were stopped, a pickup truck appears to have left the roadway and slammed into both of them. The reports said that this happened “for an unknown reason” and indicated that the police were still investigating and talking to that driver to find out why the wreck occurred.
No matter why it happened, both the officer and the driver he had stopped suffered serious injuries in the accident. Emergency crews rushed them to a local hospital. Tragically, the staff at the hospital could not save either one, and they both were pronounced dead at the medical center.
The other man was 49 years old. He was from Vallejo. No other information, such as his name or the reason for the stop, has been released.
As noted above, the driver of the pickup truck did live through the accident. He may be able to shed some light on what happened to cause the fatalities.
