You love riding your motorcycle, but your spouse wishes you would stop. They keep telling you how dangerous it is and pointing to statistics that back up that claim.
Your spouse does have a point. Motorcyclists face more risk than people in cars. How can you make it safer?
First off, just slow down. Drive in a safe, controlled manner at all times. Keep your eyes up and watch the traffic around you. A motorcycle feels so freeing and open that it’s easy to get caught up in it. When you think about safety and enjoy the ride without losing sight of what is important, you reduce the odds of a crash.
Pay careful attention any time you get to an intersection. Even if you have the right of way, never assume other drivers have seen you and will wait for you. A lot of crashes occur when drivers simply pull right out in front of bikes. Watch them carefully to avoid a crash.
Any time you ride, make sure you wear something bright and/or reflective. It could be a yellow helmet or a red jacket. Maybe it’s reflective tape you put on the bike itself. Just do not go out wearing all black on a black bike, riding on black pavement. You blend in too easily. The right clothing may help keep you safe by stopping a crash from ever taking place.
Of course, accidents still happen, even when you’re safe. If you get injured, make sure you know what steps to take to seek out proper financial compensation for your injuries.
