Knowing common motorcycle accidents may help prevent them

On behalf of Advocate Law Firm Professional Law Corporation | Sep 27, 2018 | motorcycle accidents

Anyone who buys a motorcycle has a love for the road that is unique and often more intense than other drivers. Bikes can be more fun, maneuverable and fast, but that advantages come with risks. Riders may be more likely to suffer serve injury or death than occupants of a car in a collision.

Motorcycle accidents often fall into one of several groups that are common occurrences on the road. One of the most dangerous events is when a car turns left in front of a moving bike. This type of cutoff can take a biker by surprise before an acceleration or force a stop without enough room.

Gravel, sand and other loose material can be a biker’s nightmare because a motorcycle has only half the traction of a four-wheeled vehicle. Quick stops at a corner may also throw a bike and its occupants into the path of another vehicle. But contact with another vehicle on the road is just as likely to cause trouble.

Blind spots or reckless driving can lead to a car hitting a bike from the side by changing lanes or opening a door into a traffic lane. One of the least controllable collisions is when a car strikes a bike from behind, forcing a loss of balance and possibly throwing the rider.

Victims of motorcycle accidents and survivors of motorcycle fatalities deserve the right to seek financial damages in court, including reimbursement for medical expenses and compensation for suffering and distress. An attorney can help assemble a case for damages in civil court or negotiate with other parties to reach a settlement.
