Motorcycle driver killed after car’s unsafe left turn

California has the highest population of citizens in the United States, as well as the largest number of bikers. Motorcycles are a great way to see the Golden State or use them as a workhorse for commuting and errands. Anyone who has lost hours in a freeway traffic jam has fantasized about using two wheels instead of four.

Bikers are at higher risk in the case of traffic collisions, as motorcycles offer no protection to their riders and are also harder to see during a famous California sunset. Careless or distracted drivers may be liable for an accident if they cannot stop for a motorcycle until it is too late.

An 18-year-old biker lost his life in Arroyo Grande when a nearby car attempted an unsafe turn on a major thoroughfare. A native of San Luis Obispo County was driving east and made a left turn in front of the motorcycle, which struck the car and threw the rider from the bike. He was pronounced dead at the scene, while the car’s driver was uninjured.

The driver is free pending an investigation while the California Highway Patrol looks into the possibility of charges. Even if law enforcement officers do not pursue criminal charges against the driver, the family of the dead motorcyclist may pursue civil charges for financial damages.

It is difficult to cope if a friend or family member has been killed in a motorcycle accident, and a claim for compensation may be the only way to start making things right. Consider a lawyer if you are considering a lawsuit following a motorcycle injury or death.
