Driver killed in suspected DUI accident in Marina

On behalf of Advocate Law Firm Professional Law Corporation | Dec 11, 2018 | car accidents

There are more people on the roads in California at any given time than in any other state. As a result, drivers and pedestrians have to cooperate to stay safe. Accidents can happen for a variety of reasons, but there are few factors that contribute to poor road safety than drinking or drug use.

A driver is dead after a collision in Marina that law enforcement officers believe involved driving under the influence of drugs. The accident occurred just after dark on a recent weeknight when a sport utility vehicle rear-ended a compact car, which immediately burst into flames. Witnesses were unable to get the driver out before the car was overtaken by the fire.

The accident happened on Highway 1, which makes up most of the Pacific Coast Highway, an already dangerous road prone to twists and turns in heavy traffic. The collision pushed the car into a larger vehicle ahead of it, but all inside escaped injury.

The California Highway Patrol detained the 25-year-old Pacific Grove driver of the SUV on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence of drugs. “It’s not worth the risk to drive impaired,” a spokesperson with the CHP reminded drivers in a news release regarding the incident.

Drivers injured in car accidents or the survivors of drivers killed in collisions have the right to claim financial damages in civil court in order to help people and their families recover from an unexpected tragedy. An attorney can help counsel victims and their relatives on the best way to prepare a family for life after a car crash.
